The minimum is in the Servicemen Reference book, but the old Cat books never give the new dimension.I think someone has gathered that information and shared it here before.Hopefully someone with better memory or better computer search skill will share.

What I've got for the D4 steering clutch pack is 3 7/16" new and 3 3/32" time to replace. I don't have books on the loader so it might be different. Maybe someone else can chip in here to verify?

The published spec is actually 3-3/32 in. minimum and 3-7/16 in. average new.
It has been found that in some cases you can fit up to 3-5/8 in. new.
