I've never laid eyes on a D9 that I know of, but if it's built like most CAT tractors, the clutch/torque converter will come out and get you into the flywheel to replace the ring gear. For a first timer and a helper with a suitable hoist and tools, I would say it is a good day's project.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Better figure on 2 or 3 days ,as there are some varables to this project .Are you going to remove the dash ,or fabercate a C to get acess to the flywheel with a hoist ? flywheel is recessed in the bell housing Do you have 2 3/4 fine thread studs about 6 or 8 " long to slide the flywheel on ? The 594 's I have worked on were the same as D9G ,having a torque converter ,and planatary gears in the fly wheel to remove . oil lines ,brakes pedal cross member bolted to the fenders ,and universal joint to remove .
After flywheel is out ,the new ring gear has to be heated ,and 2- 3/8 studes have to be screwed in the flywheel to slide the heated ring gear on to aline the bolt holes and locks

Not sure of the bolt pattern or if there are timing marks on that flywheel but I always mark the flywheel to reinstall it matching the same bolt holes up as it came off.

The Flywheel and the Crank will have a Chisel mark on for correct position location, but I would also be checking the Torque as its out, the nut is often found loose, also remove the scavenge pump before you pull the case then refit after the case is re-fitted, (I do this on all CAT tractors) as for time scale I would think 2 to 3 days is around the right spot.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
