Well, I recognize it as a friction-clutch type inertia Bendix drive.....but I don't know the application.
The fact that it is a straight tooth drive indicates to me that it is not of the pony start Caterpillar era and by the time Cat used straight tooth drives the inertia drive was history.

I do show that style drive being mounted to the Delco-Remy early 40MT type starter but without a starter number I have no way to identify the application.
I'll look some more.

Hey OZ,
came to me about 4.00am (the old 2 on 4 off) that one I rescued years ago from an I-R air starter off a D398 or D346 seemed to be the same as the one in my Mate's Diesel Fifty (1E 65) It is fitted with the old style square Pony.

So I looked up my Diesel Seventy-Five Parts Book and found that IT is fitted with a same looking unit but P/No 1A3267 The P/No difference may be in the tooth count and form, of the pinion.
Below is scan from my D 75 P/Book for 2E1-2E213, the only book I have with the early Pony.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
