I need to know if this is the correct carb for my tractor 1923 Best 60 # 1366A. the carb is bolted to the adapter in the picture but the adapter has been broke and welded and doesnt look original. I was told my tractor could have a stromberg or an ensign.
Im also in need of a complete air cleaner but i cant find any close up pictures of other peoples tractors with this manifold setup and i dont know what it looks like.
Alittle clarifacation will be greatly appriciated.

Alittle progress report on it also.
Tore the engine down, 2 cylinders stuck pretty good.
The cylinders are cracked on the outside of the water jackets but im going to have those fixed because they are best cylinders with the letter "B" cast in them.
Going to have to get new valves and springs and piston rings.
One head has to be welded due to a freeze break on the outer jacket
The engine been apart once and i don't like the babbit on 2 of the rod bearings so i'm having all 4 poured.

Over all so far im glad i work on engines for a living in this century at the age of 24 because i wouldnt want to work on this thing with those "old" cumbersome wrenches of yesteryear!

Hello, Nice BEST 60! That is not the correct carb though. You need the Ensign 2" model Gte. It kinda looks like a snail. They are very hard to find. Jim Zimmerman was working reproducing them, but I don't know if that has happened. I have an original Best 60 book, I will try to scan some pictures of the carb and air cleaner that you need. I have a Best 60 just like yours, mine is not as nice as yours though! I need the air cleaner for mine too, plus lots of other parts! Caterpillarman

I didnt get to take any photos due to the "AA's" in the camera being dead, but the engine is now out of the 60.
I've been soaking the tracks since december and they have yet to give any.

On my 60 ive got one front idler i believe is oringinal- Its 5 spoke with the center rib hollow- does any one know if that the correct one? because if it is then i'm going to have one cast from it. I have quite a bit of re-casting to due if i cant find parts some where for a ton of little small items.
Off the top of my head i need.....
good rear cover for Best belt pulley gear box and the nut on the side of the case
front cast fuel tank mount
lower radiator tank (Is a Cat 60 the same?)
Packing nut on the front side of the water pump.
Track pads nearly all of them due to being run on rocks. I've got about 8 real nice ones that dont have any wear on them for patterns. I know Zimmerman had some cast but does anyone know which style he had done? I need to give him a call anyway but just wondering if someone on here knew.

Caterpillarman im workin on borrowing a complete air cleaner assembly to make an exact copy or 2or 3 if theres any interest.

Also What magneto would be correct for tractor #1366A?

I've also talked recently with Mr. Rankin and im goin to have him build a canopy and a new set of fenders.
I'm not going to get into detail on the engine just yet, I'll save those ?'s for later.

That appears to be a Propane Ensign carb, not a gas carb.

The best your refering was just recently sold. It made a serious roadtrip all the way to oregon back in november. My dad's friend tried to buy that tractor 20 years ago when the radiator was still laying there with the tractor but the old man wouldnt sell. That Best was used up until after the war and i dont think it ever had any thing really replaced. The sproket teeth were just nubs and the pins and bushing are wore almost half way through!

The best we have came from right smack in the middle of Enid Ok. I was told it was for sale but wasnt worth any more than scrap. I think they were just trying to get it for a steal.
I'll give you a call and ill tell you where a late cat sixty is sitting right in Oklahoma city. Its for sale along with the matching cat pull grader but i couldnt get them to a price. Its got the straight "CATERPILLAR" logo on the radiator instead of the crawley one. Theres supposed to be two more sitting off of Macarthur in the middle of an old neighbor hood. Caleb
