We are steadily finding and fixing the inevitable issues with the new website (all of it, not just the Forum / Bulletin Board).
We would be grateful if you come across anything that you feel is not working correctly, if you will log it in this thread with as much information as you can detailing the issue.
I would prefer that this is a simple statement of facts, not a "winge and moan" thread.
We are listing and prioritising all issues found.
By us all working together and reporting any issues, we will be able to work as fast as we can to resolve any outstanding issues.
I myself have been an IT product developer in a previous incarnation, and there has not been a piece of software that is entirely 'bug free'. Something as complex as the work done here (not a simple upgrade of the existing v-bulletin software, but a complete revamp and integration of all the website components) will inevitably have bugs in spite of the extensive testing carried out, and the best way to fix them is through a prioritised snagging list.
This list will be maintained by Jan and Mary and shared with the developers.
Thank you for your help and patience.

I miss the "view previous/view next" function on the old site.
A change like this can be like buying a new pair of boots . Very painful for a while . But worthwhile in the long run .
Administrators. Thanks for the work you are putting into this.
John . Sorry I haven't answered your email yet. Been a bit busy lately.

Hello John, thanks for everyone's hard work, what's the time frame on private messages and the members list being functional again, I sent some messages a week or so ago, but afterwards realized no one has a PM box to receive them.

Also, are all our old threads and posts history coming over soon, I often refer to my old threads to help answer newer members questions.

I'm with Andrew, seems we both are struggling to enjoy the new boots.....
Regards
Mike

HI, Folks.
Thanks to all concerned for all their efforts in getting this new site up and running.

I am still finding my way around the new site - along with a heap of other things that seem to have landed on me about the same time, mostly work related

My first impression was that they could have picked an easier color to see for the headlines than a pale blue. Even a darker blue would be better.

I also miss the "Preview Post" function for checking if links work before publishing a post.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hello John
Thanks for the opportunity to point out what are probably minor issues.
1) Wasted space - Forum is condensed in the middle of the screen. The old forum used to use all the available screen space.

2) Half functioning post preview. - As Deas said you can't fully preview the post as links to images etc don't load. You can't tell if the text around the image will fit as intended when posted.

3) Clicking a thread title takes you to the last post in that thread. Even if you have not read any of the posts. - The old forum thread title took you to the first post in that thread. To me that would be the preferred action.

4) Image viewer will not allow dragging and dropping. - This is another minor issue but you can't drag and drop an image from the forum to Photoshop. For example a recent post showed an image of a serial number that on the old forum I could drag and drop it into Photoshop to enhance it but now I have to save it to my computer and then open it in Photoshop.

5)You can't change the number of posts per page.

To me the first two are major issues but the other three are only minor issues.

Regards

Phil

Hello John, Wombat kindly instructed me how to find my private message box, so that item is ticked now, just need to find our members list.

When I come on to the board I'll see anywhere from 1 to maybe 6 or 7 members online, but also hundreds of "non" members.

Who are these people actually John, I long suspected on the old board they were spammers, scammers and those locked up for 20-life at "Her Majesty's Pleasure", but are they possibly antique Caterpillar folks looking in the window putting their sticky greasy fingers all over the nice new glass?

Does the new software allow you to see if they are real folks, or just bots out there looking to do harm?
All the best
Mike

Some Suggestions
Show the poster’s location always rather than using mouseover
Place a banner at the top of each page to look like it is a Caterpillar site. (similar to home page)
Add editing feature for signature (HTML)
Fix the link problems: For example, the thread “D2 starter pinion latches” includes links on page two that only sends one to the home page and not to the proper link page. Appears the links to external sites work but not to ACMOC.

https://www.acmoc.org/bb/discussion-d72/25688-d2-starter-pinion-latches?start=10

And of course, the preview doesn’t work for me.
Post number doesn’t mean much along the right hand side and a number designating the post sequence would be more meaningful.

In my humble opinion the web pages do not look very professional (They are very plain) and there is surely not much yellow on it for us old yellow iron lovers.

I don't see how they can keep the lights on with so few paid members.

Hello Mike,
I know that the absence of the members list has been logged.
I'm not sure who the hundreds of "non" members are actually, I suspect that few are 'bots', but I have no evidence for that. I understand that the restrictions for "non" members will come into effect in October after 1 month's grace, so hopefully we will see many "non" members join up and become members.

Hello Pete,
The lights were indeed dimming, I guess that the old Cat (money) generator needed a thorough overhaul.
This is now taking place thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our treasurer, staff and board of directors.
Having stabilised the finances, we are now focussing our efforts on expanding the club membership and other initiatives to increase income.
The first major activity in this area is this new website. We have had many discussions regarding whether or not we should restrict access to all or parts of the forum (bb) to members. It's a fine balance between giving potential members and Cat enthusiasts access so they can see what is available, (especially the technical help from yourself, Eddie and others as well as the store, publications etc. etc.) versus ensuring that the club generates income from the investment it has made in this facility. Advertising does generate a very small amount of income, well, it did on the old website, not yet implemented here, but is is a tiny fraction of running costs.
If we can turn even a small proportion of the "non" members who use this facility into paid up members, it will help the club enormously.
We welcome all ideas on how the club can increase membership and income.
In the meantime, having just launched the new website, we need to get the bugs out of it, hence this thread.
Best Regards, John

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
