Looking for woven wire screen to make a couple of side screens for my D6c. Tired of getting slapped by cedar branches.

The rear screen is 2" x 2" (center to center) with 1/4" wire that's lock crimped.

Found a few places that have screen but it's usually lighter gauge wire. Anyone know of a source?

D6c10k,

You might look around in a steel supplier's yard for either used or new expanded metal with wide openings used for walkways. My D8 had them on the rear of the canopy but apparently too much of the view was blocked so they were cut off. You can see the remains of the cutoff screen in this picture. Sorry I don't have a better one.

Gravel screen of the correct opening size works good. Can sometimes find some good pieces for little to nothing at a pit that screens.

I got mine from Ingram Mfg. in San Antonio, TX. I think the woven wire is the best way to go. You will have to ask around to find a supplier in your area. I like to use 3/8" wire on 2" centers.
Below are some old pics of my tractors back in the day.

I believe there is an OSHA spec now for at least the rear cage mesh. Been awhile since I researched but as I recall (maybe) it was like a 1 inch opening. Not that it needs to apply to our old stuff.

I bought a D4D with homemade side screens that were difficult to see through(painted yellow) When I repainted the dozer I painted the screens BLACK. It makes a huge difference. Eye Strain/Relief???

Good idea using black.....Painted my radiator guard black a while back, so black screens should look good.

Wire screens would be better than expanded metal. The expanded metal will crack a lot sooner than the wire mesh. IMHO

McNICHOLS Company has a selection of screen that is unbeatable. McNICHOLS.com, I use them for a variety of products. They have branches everywhere.

All the forestry equipment I ever owned or operated that had screens had the woven wire mesh. It's usually 1/4 inch wire with about 1 1/2 inch openings. I agree that your best bet is your local quarry. They will definitely have what you need.

You think that with all that screen they could have kept the branches out. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
