Post the model and serial number here and someone will confirm the year of manufacture.
I’m looking at a D-2, s/n 3J5369. I would like to know the year of mfg and the compatibility with my D-2 5J3762SP. I do know the 3J is narrow and my 5 J is a wide gauge. I’ve found the serial number breakdown
before, can’t seem to find it now. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Your tractor is a 1939. 3J2463 - 3J4014 5J3762SP 1941.
Thank you! I appreciate your help.
D6 8U10502 Date of manufacture
Hi All. First post. Following advice earlier here I went to the ChrisCo website to determine the year of my recently purchased D68U. Appears to be 1957. (8U10502) It has done 19503 hours and is still going well. Some blue smoke at startup but none at full revs/load. Had to spend a day or so getting the pony motor to work, but some TLC with the mag and sticky governor (pulled heads off - valves not stuck but a lot of mud) runs pretty well. Hasn't been used since 1997 (but shedded). Was only recently started a couple of times by bump start for auction, but I thought I could get the pony to work so it sold a bit cheaper ($12,000 Aus - about $8600 US ). It would also only turn /brake right. Left brake pedal was going to the floor. Turns out left rear brake band adjuster mechanism (hollow adjuster nut and threaded yoke were stripped, but I've managed to crib a bit of good thread while I find the replacement parts (I believe they come as a set). My questiion really is to assist the Caterpillar dealer here in Australia to find the exact parts catalogue /model so that I can start sourcing these and things like broken prefilter for main engine, oil and temp guages which aren't working etc. Any help or advice much appreciated. Kind Regards Henry
