Just got a 1939 d-6. Found serial number on final drive-2h6194.where is the number on the engine? Cannot find it.

Front left side of motor, hiding in the water pump area.

That is a part number. Serial number is NOT on final drive case. Serial number is on the rear od the transmission case in the upper left hand corner. A metal tag is there or if no tag, number is stamped in the metal. Scrape paint off to see the numbers. catskinner

2H6194 is the correct S/N for a 1939 RD6, or D6 as they were known by then, and if you look in the top left corner of this photo you will hopefully just see the brass tag on the motor hiding near the pilot motor magneto.

Thanks mike i found it on the engine. 2h6519 sp. Was hard to read on rear, no tag.
