I have a D6 5R. My hyd control valve is leaking on the top cover. There are 4 bolts on the top cover that holds it down and the lever. Were would you get a seal for this? And is there anything i need to know in removing this cover? Don't want to break anything. It is a Laplant Choate Serial Number 7654.

They don't use a conventional lip type seal. Under the bonnet is a spring loaded packing gland (In addition to the valve plug spring). Replace the packing with a graphite type rope packing.

Used to be that pump suppliers would have an assortment of packing. String packing is still available at most plumbing supplies. Might look into McMaster-Carr industrial supplier. If it is a square cross section packing you will need to get dimensions.

I don't think it will do much good but the LaPlant-Choate seal assembly part number for the control valve is 19899.
Have no idea where you might source it.

Found a control valve from a D7 that was the same. Took it apart and it had a round flat cork seal, and a cone washer that went up to it to seal it. Took mine apart and it was missing the cork seal And the spring had lost its tension. Should be fine now have not had a chance to run it yet because of it raining.😊

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
