Hey Gang,
I got word that a D6-9u and a D8 -14a went to our local scrap yard. I called and asked them to wait until I could get there. I went to look and found a D7-3t instead. Close but not the 6 and the 8 as reported. It was sad to see how they unloaded it with a claw. The canopy smashed along with the hood, manifolds, CCU, and parts broken from unloading it. Sad, very sad. I didn't see much worth trying to save, saddened, I decided to leave. Walking out I saw a radiator and shell off a D-4 with a #44 hydraulic unit and guard, but it too had been broken and smashed by the mighty Cat Claw. Man those claws were just bitting away at steel, like it was a hot dog or something.
That night I remembered that I needed a floor plate and maybe some fenders from the old 7-3t. I went back, but the yard man said, "already on the boat to China." I left realizing it doesn't take long for history to be forgotten. Munch, it's gone. I don't know, people laugh at me sometimes when they ask why I buy old stuff. I can remember how much grief I got from a few, when I bought the Cat 660, everyone kept bugging me saying,"what are you goin to do with that thing?" I would answer,"Preserve some history."
So, a couple of Partners in crime helped me scope out before the auction, and work on and load up after the auction, our latest save from the Scrap Man. I would like to Thank Jesse, and my brother Pat for helping preserving some history. This one was worth saving, in fact, I named it "Priceless"-glen
