Hey guys--are these D8-46A with turbo and power shift a rare machine or worth a bit more than scrap?
I have heard of a high output D8 in the past and was wondering if these are one of them.
Kind of big for me to be interested--the D6-8U is more what i would be interested in.
Thanks-Dan

I used to run D8 46a cable blade like that one had a angle blade sure could lift stumps out of the ground, better than the hydraulic ones that I have ran. only thing it had a 6 bottom roller frame later 46a came with 7 bottom roller frame needless to say the old girl was nose heavy and was not as good to grade with . Like to know miles of logging road and hundreds of shallow oil and gas wells it worked on in northwest PA and western NY. I was always told that it had 270 hp and later 46a's we ran had 300hp although I could not notice much difference between them. I think the 46a series ran from 1959 to 1974 or1975 so that's 15 -16 years they were well in to the five digit serial numbers must have been close to one of cat best selling models far from rare I would think.

That's interesting you say a 46A came with a 6 roller track frame. My older 14A has a seven roller track frame.

Does that 46A sit over near Eldred now?
Or was it one of Bell's tractors?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
