The 2018 Show is sneaking up on us and will be here in under 4 short months. This year will feature more airplanes as the strip will now be 3500 feet paved, a larger contingent of military vehicles, a bigger kids play area, more than 1 train running---oh, and lots of Best, Holt, Cat and other brands of Tractors, scrapers, graders, implements etc.

It is always tough to follow up on a National Show like we hosted last year but we will have lots of new stuff that was not at the show last year. We will of course have the great line up of the rare and unusual Best and Holt tractors that we always have hopefully with a few more to be unveiled this year.

Please make your plans now for the 2018 Show. Here is the thread last year: http://www.acmoc.org/bb/showthread.php?26642-ACMOC-2017-National-Show-May-26-28-2017-Santa-Margarita-CA&highlight=santa+margarita You will get the flavor for the show from here. All the new forms will be uploaded by Feb 1st at www.bestofthewestshow.com

Here is the link for signing up your equipment, camping, dinner, vendors etc: https://bestofthewestshow.com/participate/

More later.

Review some of the photo's I and others have posted here on ACMOC, there are videos on YouTube too.

This is a show not to be missed! Not just tractors, there are tributes to our Military, this is MEMORIAL DAY Celebration too!

I have been fortunate to attend the Steam Threshing Bee in Gerber, Ca, The Best Show On Tracks at the Dan Best Ranch and the show at the Wallace Ranch in Woodland too. In my opinion,
Santa Margarita is on the same footings, maybe not as large as some but it has a great venue, many operating rare individual pieces are here.

Where else can you enjoy the Central California Coast, Wine Country, and take part in this special show on the wonderful Santa Margarita Ranch?

Maybe you can find your dreams coming true too, Mr. Tom Madden made one of mine come true and I will always be most grateful.

Hope to see you there!

Hi, Folks.
There is one absolutely fantastic feature of this show - which most of the other shows also have but that has not yet been mentioned - The People.

Each show has its own blend of organizers, workers, exhibitors and those who attend to see it all and enjoy it. Santa Margarita is not different in this regard. I have worked on putting together all 4 shows at Santa Margarita to date and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. Each and every time, I have been an 'invader', having travelled around 10,000 miles to be there - last year via South Korea, it was around 20,000 miles each way - and I have been made to feel VERY welcome each and every time. I attribute this welcome to the people, both the various individuals and 'the Blend', each of whom has contributed in some way to what has been 4 GREAT shows and 4 GREAT experiences.

Thank you to one and all and I look forward to another great show and another GREAT experience at the end of May.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi, Folks.
I have some GREAT show memories from Santa Margarita. One of the real standouts was last year when the ACMOC member of the year was announced. It was Lance Jones of Australia, president of Chapter 18, ex ACMOC BOD member, talented restorer and all-round helpful good bloke. One of the current BOD members, Neil Clydesdale, a fellow Australian, pulled out his trust cell phone, called Lance Jones from the show dinner with his phone on 'Speaker', and told him of his honor. It was one very surprised man on the other end of the call. I suspect that Lance nearly fell off the ground when he heard the news 'cos he is a pretty modest and unassuming sort of bloke.

(WARNING - OFF topic. LOL.)

The other standout memory that I would like to share with all of you is one that I didn't get to see in person but was given the photos of it by Tom Madden's wife. (See photos below.) At the first Best Of The West show in 2010, there was an old steam fire pump in immaculate condition, drawn by three horses, manned by a group of volunteers in the uniform of the day and supervised by a Dalmation dog which rode on the appliance with them. 2010 was a wet year and the creek was still running quite well at show time in late June that year.

Hi, Folks.
-Here is the 'current' image of the Santa Margarita 'sand pit' and parking area, apparently taken June 15 last year. Looks like the play area was cleaned up pretty well - just all that 'old, junk machinery' left littering the site. LOL.

All,

When you go on to the website to buy your tickets, the picture pops up and low and behold, there is my wife and I standing surrounded with old equipment. No one else is in the picture but I want to assure everyone, that it really was a well attended show and very worthwhile attending. I just did not want anybody to get the wrong idea that we were the only ones who showed up! 😊

As an aside, I could not get any webpage to appear for camping or banquet tickets, only gate passes. I probably goofed somewhere and will try again.

I think this will lead you to the Camping Registration Form, for some reason it is buried beneath other options -

I wondered if that photo meant the show was attracting a better class of people ; )
