My husband, Doug and myself, Dese, have booked our flights from Tasmania and will be there! Doug is a member of Chapter 19, Melbourne & Tasmania.
Where is a good place to stay, close to everything, including dining and shoping for me?
We are flying into Dallas and driving down. Thanks in anticipation! Dese
In the latest edition of the ACMOC magazine there are a few hotels listed on the show information page that are close to the show and are giving show rates for members. It is also San Antonio's 300th anniversary as a city with lots of events going on. If you search the internet for the cities 300 birthday you should find a number of things going on. It will be a show worth attending. There was already 46 machines committed to being there as of early last week. You can expect to see machines from Best Steamers to a R4 Military with turret crane and many in between. Most of them committed thus far are early and rare. I look forward to meeting you folks as I'm sure many others are also.
Guess it's a done deal. We have our plane tickets and rooms booked for S.A.T. Will be at the Fairfeild Inn. Coming from N.H.
Hello oilcan47, I hope Mrs. seiscat and I get the chance to meet you at the show. You should know it is a long drive from Dallas to San Antonio and there are parts of Interstate 35 that are being worked on. It is easier and cheaper to book a flight on Southwest Airlines from Dallas to San Antonio. Southwest is a Texas based low cost airline with a great safety record, they fly Boeing 737s. My brother John retired as a Senior Pilot from Southwest and I have flown with them many times.

Hi Craig,
Thanks for the info. We are staying in Dallas a night, picking up a car, spending a night on the way down and into San Antonio. After that driving for 10 days to reach Palm Springs of the North American Oil Recyclers conference.
Hope to see you in San Antonio. Doug will bring photos of his toys!

The drive from Dallas to San Antonio is 274 miles (441 km) just a day trip unless the jet lag tires you too much. The speed limit on the open stretches of Interstate 35 is 75mph (120kph) with some congestion and slower speed limits in repair zones. I recommend a stop at the town of West (exit 353) at "Slovacek's Czech Stop" a great place to try the Czech pastry "kolache" (they feature 35 varieties and flavors) also souvenirs, clean restrooms and reasonably priced fuel. Interstate 35 is always badly congested at Austin, unless you want to go through Austin I recommend taking SH130 (exit 262) toll road around Austin . The open stretches of SH130 feature the highest speed limit in the U.S.A. at 85mph (137kph). Check a map to see what is more convenient, you can continue on SH130 until it intersects Interstate 10 (goes to San Antonio also) or take SH45 toll road to tie back to Interstate 35. Most rental car companies have an agreement that charges the tolls to your credit card so you will not need to stop to pay tolls.
Your trip to Palm Springs from San Antonio by car is 1,250 miles (2,011 km). Let us know if we can help.
