Hi all, I went through the arcives and as close as I can figure the grader I am looking at I believe to be late teens to early twenties. The serial number is S 5017. I didn't get the wheel base measurements but they seem to match the Mogul specs with open gear boxes. It has flanged wheels, which I gather was not standard but an available option. This unit also has the factory steerable tongue. The only thing missing on it are 2 hub caps. I was just curious if anybody had a serial number list or possibly a unit with a close enough number to determine the year built. Thanks, Garry

According to your list, I either mistook a 3 for a 5, or is it possible that Cat sold some machines under the Russel brand the first year after takeover. I will take some soapstone and double check the serial number.

I do know that Cat purchased Russell in 1928 and i have seen graders with both the russell tag and caterpillar tag.

Thanks again Erik, I need to double check the serial number, because if I did read it correctly then I have a Cat #3. I will let you know. It was a bit of a walk to where it was parked and I was to busy BSing and forgot to take my camera. When I go back I will get some pics and post them. Garry

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
