I need to tow a BeGe earth mover about a 1/2 mile on a pved country road. Tires are rotten but hold shape. Is there any type of foam that I could use to make them hold shape for 1/2 mile (sow speed). Thanks Grant.
Hi, GrantJ.
I don't know how well it would spread just putting it in from the valve stem but the spray foam that they use for filling wall cavities for insulation might work there. Put the valve right up at the top so that the foam has the best chance of running down to fill the whole tire.
You could even drill some holes in what WAS the bottom when the tire won't take any more foam to see if it filled the whole tire - and fill from there if it didn't.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
I am thinking of using a 1 inch hole saw and do a variation of that. Drill several holes around the sidewall and shooting foam in that way. Luckily it is just down the road from me and i can drive slow. It is just too wide for my trailer. Thanks, Grant.
Grant, any thought of using a system like the tow trucks use, bogie wheels? How much weight will that foam support before it fails and leaves you in the middle of a county road, then subjected to the other issues by the entities? Do you have a backup plan if that idea fails, one that is ready and in place? It seems that the best laid plans always have a big wrinkle in them when least expected. - cts
I would not worry about it too much. You could try the foam but an old tire is not going to come apart too much in only 1//2 mile.
There are enough wide spots on the road that I could pull off pretty quick if things go bad. We have a week or more of rain coming up, so it will be a while before this happens. Grant.
