I am pulling a Rome Disk in the brush (regrowth but spotty) with my 47A.

When I started the land was bone dry and the disk, which is a model TRH-16, was doing a beautiful job at max angle for cutting.

Since then we have been blessed with several weeks of rain totaling 4". It is plenty wet. You can't pull the disk any distance without it clogging up.

The spaces bad about clogging are front right gang middle slot, and rear left middle slot. The middle slots have no bearing standards, just spacer hubs between the disk blades. Am not sure why the two other middle slots haven't clogged up.

I ordered 4 scrapers from Rome figuring that would be enough for all the middle slots.

Any Rome guys out there who can tell me about disking wet ground? I figure penetration will be better with some moisture and am keen to get on with it.

Thanks as always for taking time to reply.

I think you will find its just soil conditions is it damp clay type of soil ? might just have to wait a few days or so I think the bearing hangers are problery knocking the dirt out before its second round stopping it getting packed in

The quick fix is to loop a chain or two from the top beam around the spool(spacer) between the disks.

It is a sandy loam type soil.

Chain is a great idea, may have to look into that if these scrapers don't eliminate problem.

The chain will work. Just make sure it isnt too tight.

You need to have the blade scrapers or like mentioned chain but chain may wear the disk spacers. Pic is my TRCH 12-36 disk.

With moisture that is the nature of a disc, some places will be much more likely to plug than others.I have never been able to see anything that makes one place on the disc more likely than another but usually the same place keeps giving problems. Chain can be a big help but will cut the spacer quietly so keep a eye on things. Some times changing the angle of the disc just a little can help a lot and will cut as well ,so keep trying different angles and see if it helps.

I have used a loop of chain on my old JD tandem disc for years on a couple of sections that seem to always plug. I take them off when in dry conditions and so far have not noticed any wear on the disc spacers. I think there is enough wet dirt for a wear surface when the disc is in a plugging condition. Like already said, just keep an eye on them.

we always tied barbed wire fairly loosely from disc frame to axle. cheap, tough and works great plus it doesnt cause any wear. regards, eric

Wow that is a nice looking disk Rome! Mine is a TRH16-32" blades. 14" spacing. It has new front blades and older rears. Got the scrapers in and they are a heavy bit of steel. About 35# apiece.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
