I ordered a gasket from Cat. Just went to put it on and its the wrong part.

I am working on my 922B (196😎 with a D330 engine. I was servicing the bypass valve assembly on the final fuel filter, it turned out that the spring and plunger were clean and in fine condition, but the Gasket on the Seat was shot and tore when I removed the housing. My parts manual was not exactly clear on its diagram of this particular mechanism, but I came up with a gasket part number of 5S9611 that I was certain must be it. I obtained that exact part from Cat, and it is obviously not a match. (see pic).

Is this a common experience? Is my manual wrong, or is it more likely an inventory mistake, or could it be that the whole bypass valve housing is not the original factory part?

Sorry about the rookie question... but this is literally the first time I have ever attempted to work on this or any other machine. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It may pay to check that your parts manual is the right one for your serial number range. I checked that number and it's good for my 88J series, but it is the later spin -on type fuel filter.

Previous owner probably updated the tractor to the spin on type filter system.

I got the parts manual from Jensales. It says its for the 922B from SN 88J1 and up. My serial number is 94A3. I was assuming the SN's ascend numerically. Am I mistaken?

I haven't opened up the Final Fuel filter housing yet, so I'm not sure what's in there for a filter element, but it doesn't seem like a spin-on type from five feet away. It looks like it would be a drop-in style element. Anyway I will check later this week.

So far, I have ordered a few other items using this manual and most of them have matched up fine. But a few others have not either. For instance, I ordered a primary fuel filter element and bowl gasket and they were completely wrong. They looked like the diagram in the manual, but were way smaller than what I've got on there. It turns out I'm gonna need a new bowl for the primary fuel filter too, but I won't bother ordering it based upon this manual's part number since the associated element was incorrect. Not sure what to do next.

You will need to find a 94A1-up parts manual. I checked my manual list and don't have that one but list says I have an operators manual if you should need one. You can email me from my profile.

The 88J series was the last of the 922B line and used the later D330c, which is different in most respects to the original D330. Most other parts will be common to the 94A.

Here is the parts manual you need.
