Maybe I am not looking in the right places but I am having trouble finding a starter drive for a D-6 9u 6440. I have the motor out rebuilding it and while I had the flywheel housing off I bored the hole for an electric start using the 50MT starter using OM's guide for electric start conversions. This will give me a pony start and also an electric start option. I found the DEH (1951875) on E-bay but cannot seem to find the RH helical drive. Correct me if I am wrong but the teeth on the flywheel go to the left as you look at the flywheel either from the front or back and the teeth on the pony clutch Bendix go to the right. That means I need a RH, counter clockwise drive for the 50MT. The links I have tried on all the conversion threads do not seem to help. Thanks Brian Boaz

You need a RH helical drive (when facing drive end) either 11 or 12 tooth but the sources for the drive appear to have dried up.

The 42MT positorque (or Spragg?) drive gear can be replaced with a new gear - G2751PT was available last year from VanBergen and Greener in Illinois 800-621-3889 for $21.35.

This was in 2015??? Post #29 Thread 3J D2 Direct Start Question

restore49 I will call these folks tomorrow and see what is available. (2015???) If I can get the gear, Maybe I can turn the straight gear off the drive I have and weld the new gear on this drive. If not, it may be time to set the mill up and make an 11 or 12 tooth RH helical gear. This may get real interesting before it gets over. Thanks Brian Boaz

Bboaz:
The gear itself is replaceable - comes off your Positorque Bendix. No machining required.

They also carry the DEH that goes with the drive for the conversion. The box the drive came in was marked J & N which is a supplier. The folks at J&I said he normally keeps one drive in stock but can get them in a couple of days.
