Decided to start the restoration on my new Cat Hauler.

1953 Dodge B-4-KA truck and 10 Ton Fruehauf Trailer.

Truck has 265 engine with twin carbs. Also has both Air and Vacuum brakes for the trailer. I figure 4 MPG empty, and 3 MPG loaded.

Dan

If the gas engine is bad or needs money, a Cummins 12 valve would fit nice and probably out work the gas engine while getting conciderable better mileage.

yes, but I will continue to dump gas in the old 413 until it dies, BUT should be rustling up a 12 valve for future use. I suppose the 6 speed tranny would work fine off the Cummins for my application.( which is a semi retired excavating contractor)

Orginal, Orginal, Orginal

Going back Gas 265 twin carb, Air over Hyd truck brakes, and both Vacuum and Air trailer brakes. Will never use vacuum trailer brakes, but will have them on truck. Trailer will have Air brakes as it does now.
Vacuum 2 speed axle and the works. Will convert to 12 volt.

Does the axillary gas tank in the first picture stay? LOL. Have fun with it. It will be cool when done.

Nice truck, it should be a fun project. I like that you are keeping it original. I have a 1952 B-3-GA 152 but it has a flat bed for hauling hay so I don't think it will ever have a cat on the back.

I would advise converting to straight air for truck, I am sure the parts could be found and would be safer and more reliable, and put spring brakes for parking etc. This isnt going to be an economical restoration,so I would consiner a cat diesel power plant.A 3176 would be a good choice, Gene

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
