Hello all. Yesterday I picked up some new porcelain spark waster caps that I had made here locally. I need to credit fellow bulletin board member Dick for the idea of having them made. Each one is hand made so they’re all slightly different. They’re glazed inside and out. All the original ones I’ve seen are cracked or chipped. These fit the model HK magnetos.

I’d love to post a picture, but my phone and this sight are having issues again. I’ll keep trying.

Let me know if you need one, $15 ea.

Looks to me like the phone company is not a morning person like you are. :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

He he I never looked at it that way!! It does look like a cereal bowl!! Probably big enough for 3 or 4 Cheerios, won’t hold milk worth beans though.

Oih, sometimes I want to throw this phone in the Harris and thrash it. Lol.

Good question, a magneto needs to have a way to protect the coil in the event that a spark plug wire falls off or breaks. They put in another place for the spark to go that has a much larger gap than the spark plugs but still close enough to spark across. On these old KW’s this device is a electrode (not shown) that goes down through this porcelain cap. Under the cap is a little button where the spark can jump to if necessary. Over time the caps crack or break or get lost.

Hope this helps

I suspect they have a similar thing, just hidden inside somewhere.

Good one Bruce , Eiseman CM4's which most People are Familiar With is a good example , Take the Top off and You will see behind the Coil 2 what look like Pointers , with a Gap of about 1/2 inch. and that gap is where that "Stray" spark goes . I actually Burned a Coil out on My Bench By testing it too Far, it earthed through Coil . [$100 bucks thanks!! ] I have had several Magnetos come into My Hands that Coils have Been "Earthed ' and have had to get them rewound . LJ

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
