I recently purchased a 955H to use around my property. I thought the left clutchs were out but it ended up being the flywheel going to the finals had the center spun out of it. Meanwhile in the process of I am changing the fluids and found what appers to be regular trans fluid in the power shift. Is this an acceptable oil for this or should I expect problems. I intened to use 30 weight in tthe tractor.

Should be running TDTO, SAE 10W for -4 to 32 deg. F
SAE 30 for +14 to 104 deg. F
SAE 50 for +32 deg. F - up.
Do not use engine oil.

Jrideman, I doubt it really is automotive transmission fluid. I suspect someone used Cheveron Tractor Hydraulic Fluid which is a red colored oil. I worked as a construction equipment oiler for a couple of construction companies and this was a common oil used in a lot of different brands of equipment's hydraulic and transmission systems and even differentials. Just drain it and put in what you know to be the correct fluid. W. SMITH

Thanks for the input. I found a mobil 30w that meets the TDTO standard for 7.77 a gal. I also could not find the gaskets for the pinion cover so I orderd some buna rubber to make my own. This is my first cat tractor and am learning fast how great this fourm is for info.
I almost forgot to ask if anyone knows how long the dip stick for the clutch compartment should be? It has been discontinued from Cat.

Jrideman, Try finding a dipstick through the Caterpillar used parts system at your local dealer. If that don't work try some of the used equipment salvage yards which have online websites with a parts search engine.
