Hey all,

Replacing the control cables on the D4F Hyster winch on my D4D. It's the three-cable, three-lever set-up. Two cables were frozen. PO had welded the control housing to the dozer so that I couldn't reach the nuts on the levers....had to torch one cable off and grind another. 😠 Makes me wonder.

So, I picked up a recommendation for Thomson in Oregon. Any other places you guys recommend? I'm in VA, so somewhere on the East Coast would be nice, but not a gotta have.

BTW, got all the manuals for the winch from links on this site....so I guess I can ID part numbers if I had to.

Thanks!

Thanks, OM. Did you go through a distributor? How did you order? With P/Ns?

I have the old cables all bundled up. I was thinking I would send them off to a sales guy somewhere so there was zero chance (yeah, right) that I'd end up with the wrong thing. Whattya think?

It was awhile ago, don't remember if it was a distributor or the manufacturer. Was out if Washington State.
Had to tell them what I wanted based on the old cables.
Was the #173-HTT-2-(length in inches) series for a D4D winch (same controls).

The only thing different about the Hyster "F" series is prior models are cast steel, the "F" is fabricated steel.

OM, thanks for the info.

These guys say they can get them. They're local. Took the old ones in there and I forwarded the P/N you gave me on to them. We'll see how they turn out. They're saying over $100 each.

Never heard of that source and I can't tell from their website where they are.

Hope your getting the right stuff as I seem to recall the price for new cables and a reworked lever control unit was about $1,000. And that was a few years ago.

They're in central VA, just south of Lynchburg. I'm a little skeptical myself, but that's why I pulled the cables and drove there and handed them to the guy myself. If their eyes work, then they can at least give me cables that look just the ones I gave them, you'd think. And the counter guy said he was real proud of the quality of the ones he had. We'll see....

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
