This blade is on a 78 A D4D. I know it has been heavily modified but is it a Cat blade?  Wondering if the pins that you use when changing the angle might be available as replacement part?  Is it a 4A blade?  Thanks, Mike

Hi, ROME K/G.
I thought the D4D was the first series with the blade lift rams on the hard nose. If I am 'kee-wrecked', the assembly shown in your photo would have been up to D4C.

That said, I do think it is a Cat 4A blade assembly and that they have taken the triangle from an earlier dozer lift arrangement and welded it direct to the C frame to give a lift point for the ram 'coz there was no pivot assembly across the track frame for the D4D.

Mschwartz, if you look around the top right corner of the back of the blade, you may find either the remnants of a tag or where the rivets attaching said tag once were. If the tag is gone and you can find the rivets, there oughta be a serial # stamped into the blade metal.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong 'coz I'm no 'ex-spurt'.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks. OM, your scan is much cleaner than the one in the library. I had found the 2J883 number but was having no luck. Do all of the old part numbers need a 0 added into them to search? If you had a close up picture of pin and how they were originally secured that would be great. I am thinking there was a smaller keeper pin on a chain to secure the pin? Thanks, Mike

Yes, in most cases you need the four digit number plus prefix.
I'll see if I can find those pins a get a picture later today.

As it turn out the pins I have are the 4F1252 units used on D6 & D7 blades.
I'd expect the D4 units to be similar.

Took a few more pics this afternoon when I fed cows. First is the trunnion and linkage like what is supposed to be with the 4A blade, this is on a 7U. Found the rivets on the blade but no tag. I thought that there were no numbers but I think I see some in the picture now. This is what is left of the worn out mess of the pins I am wanting to fix. Thanks, Mike

Hi, Mschwartz.
Just the two rivets are enough to identify it as a Cat blade but yer right, some numbers are visible through the paint.

Those angle blade fittings were a WEARING part in all of those early Cat angling blades.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

that end could be salvaged with a bushing and a new pin i suggest brass or bronze for the bush that way it flogs out and not the steel part. but the ball joint itself needs replacing or pack with green hide leather soaked in neats foot oil
