Recently purchased this D2 and finally got it home. I was told it was a low houred machine but not sure if original hours or just on a rebuild. Pony motor is free but haven't been able to turn the big motor yet. The transmission has had the cover off for several years, so a little clean up is in need and I don't know if clutch is stuck either, but does seem like it has potential.

Looks like it may still have the original bypass type oil filter setup.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I am not a believer in the hour meter you find on most old Cat tractors. Why they should not last longer I don't know, but the ones I am around don't work.

But the draw bar on a tractor without a blade is hard to argue against. As well as pivot points on levers and the deck plate and brake pedals.

Nice looking tractor. May the rust no be to hard to overcome.

Thanks for the comments, I would also question the hour meter but I have no one that I'm aware of that knows much about its past other than I know someone took the top of trans cover off for some reason and never buttoned it back up. Yes both serial number plates are the same. Since the cover is off not sure about play in the steering clutch levers but they are fairly tight in the housing. Yeah those pedals still look new - a good sign. I've got an old 5J here that has the brake pedals worn slick, seriously on some of the edges there aren't even traces of the checkering left, and the rest of the machine isn't far behind, lol.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
