Has anyone had success with reusing the head gaskets for a pony motor? I finally got the parts to put the pony for my D2 5U back together and head gaskets were not in the box. Plan on calling this morning to see what happened to them. I have next week off and have about two days of work for the D2. Gaskets look good, but I have never put a motor back together without new head gaskets.I think I can change the head gaskets once the pony is reinstalled in the tractor, but may have to hold the fendors out some to get heads on and off.

What to do is get a tube of #2 black perma-tex and coat one side of it and I don,t think you,ll have a problem then.It is best to replace them but in your case I think it will work out ok. The old D6 esp. the 8 & 9 U series had a bad habit of seeping on the outside area of the gasket on the left side so een a new gasket I always coated it with the #2 perma-tex and remedied the problem. Also put a thin coat on one side of lots of diesel head gaskets other than the D6s to help with any leakage as some had a problem esp. if the head or block had a little roughness on them.

Had the day off Friday, so had some time to work on the D2. Get the pony all back together minus the head gaskets, it was about 4:00 pm. Walked back to the house, and the new head gaskets were ther. Was a nice surprise. Finished the heads and called it a day. Installed pony this morning, got it running. It doested run as good as I woulf like, but at least it will start when its hot now. Plan on doing some more work on it in the next few days. Thanks for the info.
