Larry, the top is one of the original Cat canopys that Cat sold as we installed them on new tractors at the dealer years ago. The same style was used on all the models of the Cats back then. The top was made of wood parts so we repaired lots of them too and installed new canvas material on them too when needed.

Larry, the canopy isn't worth too much other than as a pattern for someone wanting to build a new one. There is considerable rot and wood loss which would make trying to install new canvas a waste of time and money. The wood is in a weakened state and may not hold nails or staples well. Also, when wood gets this open-grained, it is nearly impossible to get paint to adhere properly. There are products on the market that will stabilize old wood in preparation for restoration word, and for application of wood fillers and epoxies (much like bondo), but they do not strengthen the wood, so a limb falling from a tree or vibration from running the machine can still lead to cracks and breakage. I do not recommend using these products other than for static purposes/displays. The parts that are usable from the canopy are the uprights and corner brackets that will facilitate the installation of a rebuilt canopy. In one of the pictures, they look like they have been cobbled up pretty good. Good luck.

The belt pullie is not on that cat it is on another cat. The big pullie on the frount, the power unit goes to the big part of the pullie and the blade goes
to the small pullie. The power unit on the back is a single drum Letourneau

Nice save! Tractor looks to be one of the earlier RD-4's by the early style fuel tank.

The belt pulley looks like it is off a D-6. I had one rebuilt last fall from Paper Pulleys. They did a great job on it.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
