At the very first sputter I shut down suspecting low fuel. Sure 'nuff dip stick is dry. Put 12 gallons in the tank and tried to bleed the filter. Started with the pet cock on rear bottom then thumb screw top front finally opened bleed fitting on top front below thumb screw. All three spouted clear fuel when opened individually while the pony was cranking the engine over.

Moved on to the injectors by cracking them individually and all at once with throttle open. Was never able to get anything out of them.

One other thing... The throttle lever moves very freely forward to low throttle but all of a sudden is much harder to pull up to power. Haven't been able to discern whether it's the throttle lever or fuel control.

I don't have any books so can't refer to any instructions or illustrations. Please bear with my lack of info but where should I go next?

Thanks,
jon

Here is the Cat procedure for bleeding.

Note, there is no mention of "cracking the injectors", even though it is commonly done.

Fuel (throttle) is closed to prevent pumping excessive fuel in to the cylinders.

Thanks lots for that info.

Now I need to make a tool for breaking those bleeders loose.

I forget what size to start with exactly, but a 1/4" drive socket that's been "squished" on two sides is an easy way to do it.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I was able easily to open the "vent" valves inboard of the injector pumps. After bleeding them as well as the filter tower I was able to start the engine. As a matter of fact I think the first piston to come up on compression fired off and it ran as smooth as ever.

Thanks OM!

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
