In the final prep for the high ten, I am having an issue with the lower radiator tank. As most of them are, my lower tank had been repaired in the past with a brass like material. Someone did a really nice job and it is hardly noticeable.

The tank had been painted and holding coolant for probably 12 months, and a bubble formed behind the paint with coolant. With a knife I scratch away the paint and there is a small seam from the brazing repair.

I already have to remove the radiator from the tractor for final paint and to install the fan shrouds, so I was thinking of repairing the lower tank from the inside. I want to remove the lower tank from the radiator, and use some sort of sealant or expoxy to seal the entire inside of the lower tank. Do you think this will work? I think i may have found a product, I even spoke to them and inquired if this product was water/antifreeze resistant and if it could deal with temps of 212. They said it would.

The product is here http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm

Do you think this will work? Is there a better product?

Matt

You would I expect have to fully sandbast inside Tank and that would not be easy , as feel in time Coolant may seak in under your Resin. I have repaired crack's in tank with Cat epoxy resin and so far Successful . Those 10/15 Tanks can be a real pain . Good luck LJ

Matt , I used the gas tank sealer epoxy on my lower rad. tank on my Ten. The Caswell epoxy worked great. I did the tank in three steps. First I sealed the bottom by pouring it in and letting it harden overnight. I then turn the tank on it's side and poured it and let that harden. On the third side I taped over the lower rad. tube hole and did the same. I put a good thick coating on. I had to use a hole saw to reopen the hole for the rad. tube. I did mine about a year ago and have had no problems. Hope this helps , Rick

Hi Matt I used Red-Kote in my fuel tanks and the oil cups on the cat aircleaners to prevent leaks. I have had good luck with it. It is made by Damon Industries www.DamonQ.com or 1-800-362-9850. Just my $0.02

I agree with the Red Kote. That stuff will stick to anything. Good stuff. It originally used to be red, but now it is blue so don't let the name fool you. Matt once you sand blast that lower tank you should have good luck with just about any of the products mentioned here. One of the first cats I did had a horrible lower tank. I used a fiberglass resin, which was a 2 part product. Used the resin with out the glass matting. Still leak proof after years. Good luck.
Thanks for the Info on FUEL TANKS,, I am currently looking into fuel tank sealer, I have been looking at a FROST product, which is a 3 part thing, 1st a tank wash, then a tank etch, and then a sealer, the cost was looking expensive.

Matt sorry for getting into this "off topic" rad sealant thread, the last fuel tank sealant system I used was from FROST it very good but expensive. I sand blaster the best I could the inside of the tank, and then applied the coating system. I ended up with a Latex Type White Seal, all inside the fuel tank. 20 years later its still the same inside the fuel tank (machine stored in shed), I guess the outer skin of tin will go 1st, leaving me with a thin plastic tank. So yeap, if it withstands Fuel I cannot see it being a Problem for water rad Tanks. I am looking at buying in bulk some fuel tank sealant System soon Not only to cover small Pin Holes in a Gas Tank. But Mainly to stop Further Corrosion inside the Fuel tank, and give a modern Internal Plastic Type Coating, which also stops rustry particles from entering the fuel pipeline, etc, ie before the fuel filters etc, nothing worse than a piece of rust about 0.020th thick, acting as a flap on the fuel tank outlet LOL.

Thanks for the info CM
