My radiator in my 955 12A is rotten, I've come to conclude over the weekend. I was going to pull it and send it to the local radiator shop that does great work. I figured it would cost a couple hundred bucks at least. It takes about 6 hours at least to pull it off one of these track loaders cause the hydraulic pump is mounted to the bottom tank. You have to drain the hydraulic system, remove the pump and drive, and pull the radiator with the tanks attached.

Every time I started it, I had to keep a water hose in it to keep it full and it kept sprouting new leaks. I knew the radiator shop was gonna tell me that it's rotten and couldn't be fixed, so I called about a new core from General Radiator about a new core today.

I couldn't believe the price I was quoted. $275 plus $64.15 freight delivered to my front door within 3-4 days. That made my day and I couldn't pay them fast enough.

I've checked with my local scrap yard and should be able to get $75 for my old core. Plus, I only have to unbolt the core from the bottom tank instead of taking the hydraulic pump off. Saves about 4 1/2 hours of work.

Better than that, they make them themselves here in the US. What a nice surprise.

Great people to deal with so far.

what a stunning price...

FYI I just paid 1200 A$s for a D4 7U core. But it was very well made and by Aussies too, surprisingly in these days of mass Asian imports.

So I am consoling myself over the massive wallet hit by focussing on the quality plus the fact that I keeping the remnants of the Australian manufacturing industry alive for a bit longer😊

Question: is it brass/copper/steel or aluminium?

Either it was an old price on overstock or else when you get it, it will be the wrong one.
If not, then AWESOME!

You know I was more worried about getting the deal done before they could back out to ask them if it was brass/copper or aluminum. I'll let you know when it gets here. He said that it would take a day to make it, and two days to ship. That's pretty good since they're 1050 miles from me.

I'll take it even if it's aluminum or even steel cause mine is so bad. I have read that steel is even higher priced than brass/copper cause it's a lot harder to draw it into thin tubes.

He did say something about an installation kit. I think that means that the headers are blank and you have to drill them, after doing a bit of research on here before I ordered from them. I don't mind doing that at all. I've already made the gaskets once.

I've already had the tanks off before to clean them and to rod the old core, which was really plugged with lime/scale. Someone before me had been running creek water in it, with decomposed granite from the area where I bought it still in the tanks.

To make a drill template for the new core just cut the plates off the old one, then you can place them on the new core and drill the holes.
That way you do not have to go to the trouble of laying out all the holes and worry about the drill drifting when you drill the holes.

I have used General Radiator several times and I have been please with the results as well. They are not a perfect match but pretty close.

Curiosity got the best of me today so I called them back to see what the new core was made from. He said it was brass/copper. They make very few radiators out of aluminum.

I haven't sold my old core yet so that I could use the headers as a template.

It cost me 750$ to be made some of the holes are off but nothing my die grinder couldnt fix. Im very pleased with there work. I dont know if they kept a record of my core or not. Their phone # is 586-773-0770

I bought a Core from general Radiator last summer for my Diesel Fifty. I bought it with the flanges blank and done what was suggested earlier, and cut the flange off the old core and used it as a template. The core has worked well with no leaks, but is MUCH lighter made than the Caterpillar core. When I installed the core and started the tractor for the first time I could look look at the core and it was doing one heck of a side to side shimmy. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but sure enough it was moving, especially when I would throttle up. I made an extra long hose and attached it to a can of expanding foam, gave a few shots of the foam on each side between the core and the side casting of the radiator. The foam did the trick, it filled the void between the core and side casting and took all the shimmy out, best of all you cannot see the foam at all. I ran the tractor quite a bit, and even plowed a few acres in the fall, and had no trouble with the new core.
