O.k. this is kind of an oddball question, and just for information purposes.

I had to replace the radiator cap on my D2 and was expecting it to be in the neighborhood of $50, after reading accounts here and seeing one on ebay.

Surprise surprise mine was only $15 from Cat. So what gives did I get a cheap cap, or did the parts guy make a mistake and not charge me correctly.

And yes, the cap came in a Cat box, it fits the radiator, and looks brand new.

Well I don't know what is going on because I priced out a cap for a D311 which is the same engine as in a D2 & my local CAT dealer wanted $150.00 CAN. Told him thanks but no thanks I was also expecting it be approx. $50.00. Wish I lived closer to one of the dealerships your dealing with.

The J series/D3400 cap is very different than the D2 U series/D311 cap. There is yet another cap used on the very late model D2s/ 93311A, that one is probably not available new.

They put a new rad cap on my D7E before I got it and the bills showed that it was 25.00 cdn. That's the D339T. Actually was a bit surprised when I looked threw the bills and saw that. Figured it would be more. I don't know who they ordered threw or where they got it from. Maybe that was the dealers cost on it, I'm not sure but that's what showed up.

Its easy to figure out, what the the D2,3400,311 stationary and the late R2 all use the cheap stapmed sheetmetal cap, the money cap is the cast oval cap with the wing bolt used on the 22s, early R2s and early D4s or the heavy brass spinon like the D6s used
