I think the rotor in my CM4 may not be aligned correctly but I'm not sure. I have tried to set the timing on my R5 and regardless of how often I align the pins in the CM4 inspection plug - after I rotate the engine the pins are not aligned when I align the timing marks on the flywheel / bell housing. I have attached a picture of the CM4 inspection window where you can see the pins are not aligned - the flywheel mag mark is aligned with bell housing mark in this pictue - seems like the pins should be still aligned??
The other picture is of how I am adjusting the rotor to get the pins lined up. I am using the directions in my R5 manual. Basically line up the flywheel marks, adjust the rotor by loosening and rotating the drive hub while at the same time releasing the starter pawl (punch in the hole on cover). I do this repeatedly, rotate the engine a few times and end up with the pins out of alignment like in the picture.
I'll also say that if I have the mag on the bench and I rotate the mag to the point where it catches where the pins are supposed to be aligned the pins are not aligned - it looks about like what you see in the picture.
I don't have any manuals or parts book for my CM4 (despite looking hard on eBay) so I'm a little hesitant to rip into my mag to adjust something I'm not sure needs adjusting. Also just had it rebuilt so a little surprised it would be this whacked.
So should I crack it open and adjust the rotor internally? No idea what this looks like but I have done this on Wicks.
Thank for any feedback - Ross
