Woohoo! Got my R5 running but it stalls out after running for about 5 seconds. It runs even and smooth - just acts like it is fuel starved. Fuel line and tank is clear, fuel pump is working and fuel is getting to carb. Could this be an issue with float adjustment? If so what are specs for float levelon Zenith K5 or where can I find them? Nothing in manual on this.

Big relief I got it starting and running. Any tips on this issue appreciated.

I also had a problem with stalling with a Zenith K5, or having to baby it up to any speed. All kinds of suggestions but I read the manual and opened the high speed jet another 1/2 turn and now it runs OK. I am going to try it a little farther open, but it made a huge difference. Grant. Try the cheap and simple things first.

Neighbor had one here always afraid to use it even back in the 60's, cause it burned 5 gallons/per hour to get any work done. Takes a good sized fuel line to run that much fuel, without any blockages.

I'll check the tank and line again - that would be too easy but maybe so. And yes R5 is known for its appetite for gas.

Just a sediment bowl - it's clear. I pulled the fuel line from the carb and cranked the engine - the pump is pushing fuel. But if the lines or tank are restricted by debris that might be enough to retard flow to carb. I'll check it out tomorrow.

By the way can someone tell me the displacement/ci on an R5? One carb rebuilder I was talking to said it was 618 - that's big!

Not digging up the Instructions but I believe it states that if you take the carb and turn it upside down, the float level is 3/4" when measured. Can't remember where the measurement is taken (too early in the morning)
BUT if you are going to do it the Shop way, then you need to have an adapter that attaches to the Carb Bowel and runs a clear tube up the side to visually see where the level is when mounted on the Manifold.
If no one chimes in soon, then I'll look it up later today.
Actually the Instructions should be posted here somewhere as a CAT 22 runs a K5 also.
