My R2 6J crank starts reasonably easily and runs for about 10 seconds at medium rpm then quits abruptly. It may sputter once and then quit but it doesn't sputter like my 22s do when I shut off the fuel and let them die.
I have a rubber hose and new filter going directly to the carburetor from the main tank. I had taken the Zenith carb apart and cleaned it with an ultrasonic cleaner. I had set the carb adjustments as per the operator's manual.
When it quits, if I am fast enough I can catch it with nearly full choke and keep it barely running at idle.
Any ideas about what to do before I take carb off and try one from one of my 22s?
Thanks,
Pete
Not getting fuel to the carb, needle valve not opening ,float stuck.
Peter--what serial # is your R2? I had 6J 102 years ago--sold it and don't know where it went

Dan, my 6J is sn. 1024. I got it a couple of years ago from an estate sale near Yakima, WA. Hopefully, 6J 102 is still out there going strong.

steeltracs, thanks for the tips. I'm going the them one at a time hoping that it's the hose to the carb.

what can happen is the barb fitting can cut the inner liner and restrict flow a little dish soap or rubber grease helps prevent that by letting the hose slide over the barbs easily. also dress the barb end so its not sharp edges

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality
Finally got it running. I put a different carb on it with the same problem. I put a larger inner diameter fuel line and fittings up to the 2 inch extension on the tank outlet. No change. I could see the outlet inside the tank and it was clear. I put a bore scope into the tank and down the outlet into the 2 inch extension where I discovered some blockage. Of course, the one thing that I didn't check! After rodding it out, it runs great.
Thanks for all of the tips.
