I thought I would take a swag at asking the forum regarding sources around the country for true Caterpillar bolts. I was just at my local Cat dealership and the sole parts man was a bit lost when I asked for a T921 Cat ten track bolt and he truly had the deer in the headlight look when I asked if he could look-up the long double length style nut that I thought accompanied the T921 bolt in bolting pads to the rails.

My questions to the forum are:
  • What is the part number of the correct 7/16 double long nut that compliments the T921 bolt?

  • Are there any sources out there selling Cat bolts but not at Cat prices..ie 55 cents per T921 bolt. I am scared to find out what the double-length nut will cost.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Greg

Hi DF,
the computer needs at least a six digit number to recognise a Part No.
Your T921 becomes 0T0921 for the 'puter to find it.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Ed. You would not have the part number for the longer double length nut would you?

Hi DF,
sorry, standard 7/16" UNF non-hardened nut called for in my TEN Parts Book is 1B4204, but, the hardened equivalent nut is still only 3/8" high and is 9S8905.

BUT, from my D2 3J PB we have 2B 5483 nut for a 7/16" UNF bolt and could be what you are after.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Greg:

The original TEN parts book calls for track bolt T-391 and standard length nut. T-391 is 7/16" x 1 3/16" fine thread.

Later FIFTEEN thru D2 tractors call for track bolt 2B5484 and nut 2B5483. These are 7/16" fine thread - the nut is likely the double length, but not sure.

You might want to check with a local nut and bolt supplier, NOT the local hardware store for track bolts and nuts. The longer nuts are called "coupling nuts" and can generally be found in common sizes and threads and if I recall correctly, also in various grades.

I realize they're not Cat but I've had good service and life from 'em.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
