JB----

Is it possible for me to allow another forum user to utilize some of my file space (pictures)??

I noticed that edb stated in one of his responses that he was out of posting space. He provides alot of real good technical data from time to time----most of my pictures are non-relevant (commonly considered as BS). ๐Ÿ™„ I would be glad to allow any of our old pros to utilize some of my space if it is possible in an effort to get more good technical advice posted up on the board.

Also----while on the subject, how does a user determine how much space he has remaining. And if near full------what is the process of deleting some previously posted pictures to free up space??

I am on dial up and going through one of the host sites is a very slow process for me----I readily understand why some of the others don't attempt to download pictures through one of these host sites. Even viewing pictures off of one of these sites is a slow go for me.

Will be glad to help out if I can. Same thing would apply over on ACME.

Please advise.

DD, I know that when I upload pics, as I am navigating the "manage attachemnts" window, there is a bar at the bottom of the box with green and red colors indicating the amount of space you have used vs the amount of space you have left. I hope this tidbit helps.

The amount of space allotted each individual isn't on a "per user" basis but through a resource assignment within the system, so there really isn't an effective way to do what you suggest. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's more akin to you trying to develop a system to keep a single pad on your tracks from getting as much wear as all the rest. It can be done, but is somewhat counter-productive.

My suggestion would be to utilize a photo-hosting service like Photobucket or the like for the stuff that isn't technical to make space, or perhaps we could re-visit working on a system to get things worth keeping onto the website. There are options aplenty, just need to figure out what will work best.

Archiving everything that comes across this board should have been a priority from the very begining. Every time the board changed formats I was told that all the old posts had been saved and would be archived someday. This has never happened. Now people have to delete information in order to post more. This is very bogus, we are moving backwards instead of forwards. Storage costs are negligable now if you do it right.

Everything that's been posted on this forum is here. The issue isn't storage, it's storage within the forum. I can put whatever ACMOC wants to put on the web site, but we need to have a plan to implement before I can do that. The forum is a separate component of the entire website and its function is to facilitate communication and community among the members, while the web site itself serves as a repository and "front end" for the ACMOC web presence.

You provide me things to store or archive, tell me how y'all want it organized and presented, and I'll get to putting it out there. All I need is content and the official go-ahead. But if it comes down to y'all want it within the forum and aren't interested in the web portion, then we'll have to add a third-party component to the forum to exclusively handle image galleries. This can be done, but wasn't in the original plans and why things are the way they are.

Not everyone will always be happy with everything here, but we'll be growing and changing to try and keep as many as happy as possible and within reason. Your suggestions, gripes, criticism, praise and feedback are what steers this process. It may not happen overnight, and some things may not happen at all, but the attention and intent are there.

Please keep in mind also that I work for ACMOC and changes work their way through the club. This isn't my site where I can just willy-nilly make changes and policy as I see fit. I respect and appreciate the opportunity I have to help here, and am not going to act rashly or without consultation with the powers that be.

Nice sermon........ I know you like to blow us off with your high end technobable but fact is all the material posted on this BB is NOT there. The scans and pictures posted are only there as long as they are sitting in our personnel pc files. When the quota you have allotted is filled and we delete to add more they are gone. I guess you don't monitor this thing very closely.

Yes, we all know you are not free to run with this thing but as the standing consultant and operator we look to you to initiate improvements and present them to the membership and ACMOC administration. Sure doesn't appear to be anyone else savvy enough to do it. There is or should be more to it than just keeping the lights on.

Another fact: If this set up had archives we wouldn't be posting the same stuff over and over and allotments probably wouldn't be an issue.

Need it simpler........no improvements, no renewal of club dues for me anyway. What we have now is no different than what you get for free on other sites.

I'm about as ignorant as they come, so apologies if not particularly clear in trying to explain things. One thing to consider: Each person is responsible for their own quota of forum-hosted image space, I don't monitor it at all as it has a "gas gauge" to let you know how much space you've got left.

And I certainly agree we should have stuff saved rather than it being posted again and again, but I've got to have it to save it. Get it to me and we'll see what we can come up with.

That makes it even worse than I thought.........guess we been posting valuable technical information to nowhere๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ™„ Either you or someone assigned ought to be capturing this material. You don't need to wait for personal service.......just peruse some of the posts. We can as suggested see that the material gets posted under it's own heading instead of buried in the general discussion but waiting for delivery to you with no established process just isn't going to happen in my opinion.

OM, I am not taking sides here, but on ACME, there is a forum where stuff is archived if relevant. Regardless, there are some issues that continually get asked/posted even tho it is archived. People get lazy, so rather than exercise the pinky a few times to click the mouse, they would rather have a personalized response to their person issue. Joe is an accomodating guy as is evident from his personal web site. Here however, if the boss says "no" then the boss says no. You should perhaps bring the issues to the BOD with the information Joe has given you. I read your posts and you are an intelligent eloquent speaker, so I don't think you will have a problem voicing your concerns.

Hi B4D2,
I'm well aware of the lazy and "other" factors. I sometimes see the same post question come up on the same page a few posts apart. So what are you suggesting........no archives or having to go to another BB to research? Bottom line is there shouldn't be a redundant BB, but that's a long story that started a long time ago. Chances of me addressing the BoD out on the West Coast is pretty unlikely as often as meetings occur here. It's a shame to see what could be a great site just stumble along in retarded mode. Maybe nobody really gives a rip anyway๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ™„
