I'm looking at another 9K on CL and stamped on it the chassis S/N plate is "US 7"
Im wondering what the the US 7 stands for. Anyone have ?? ideas ??
It still wears remnants of the its original OD Green birthday suit. ?? under the Cat yellow

Hi, Fat Dan.
My guess would be that it is an ex-navy machine with the U.S. 7th fleet.

That might be but it seems like everything up here that is Navy is usually different shades of blue - depending on how sun bleached they have become..😃

My fault ... I didn't get any pictures of the patina under the Cat yellow with numbers and Data on the chassis.
I did find another picture

I believe during WW2 since so much of production went to the US military, Caterpillar painted everything in military green.
