Hello all you Wizards out there!!

I can not get this motor to fire up. I have great spark, and lots of fuel.

Could it be that the compression low?

If so, should it be re-ringed, this cat has been sitting for a long time. Any suggestions are most welcome.

They were not very high compression to start with and will run when very worn out, so i would not give up yet.

Quick, easy check is swap the plug wires in the mag cap. Been more than one that was fixed like that!

Valves could be stuck and 0 compression. Hold your thumb over the plug hole while you crank it to find that. It doesn't take long to pop the heads off and check things out in there. Just have to drain the coolant first! Head gaskets can almost always be reused or new are $10-15.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

If its no compression then the valve lifters are stuck, usually happens when sitting for a long time.

Use a compression gauge. Mine had 80 and ran great.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
