Hey guys. I'm having a little trouble pulling a D4 Hyster winch off my D4 7U23909.
I have removed the top brackets and the other 4 nuts- 2 in the middle and 2 lower. I can just get a small pry bar between the top of the winch and the dozer, but I can't seem to split it at the bottom. I have tried adjusting the overhead hoist tension, but the winch doesn't want to leave. Could the shaft coupling be holding it or is there some other trick? I have to pull my steering clutches.

I am not sure but you should have 6 bolts and maybe 2 nuts who hold the winch on dozer

Give this a shot-I can't go through it now, but I recall from when I pulled mine that Hector is correct. Also, the weight of the winch makes it want to hang on to those large stud bolts. I am guessing you are lifting the back end a little while you are trying to wedge in your pry bar. I did not have any trouble with the coupling wanting to hang on to the transmission shaft. I was able to pull mine with a standard hand pump hydraulic cherry picker.

Good Luck

There should be four nuts at the bottom, two are underneath, quite close to the outer ones.

Besides the two blocks that bolt to the top rear of the tranny, there are six nuts on the rear plus two bolts underneath. Usually the splined coupling won't hang you up coming apart. I used a 5/8" eyebolt in the hole just above the drum. .it balances pretty good with that as a lift point.

Uses six studs, same as the drawbar brackets....plus the two top mount brackets.

On my D4 7U, I had the same problem too. So I pried the winch off a little with a pry bar and I found another nut located inside the dust cover on the right side. I took of the winch side cover and after undoing the last nut, the winch slide right off. Unfortunately, with the last bolt still fastened, when I pried the winch back with the bar to take a look, I chipped one of the teeth in the Hyster's drive. 😞 Good luck.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
