Since I bought and rebuilt my D7E, I've never changed the oil in the transmission. I had the ROPs, tank, seat, etc. off for a while during the strip/primer/paint. We replaced the seals and bushing from the shifting linkage in the top of the transmission as they were pretty shot. Before the seal and bushing replacement, I'm pretty sure that some water entered the transmission while the ROPs and everything else was removed(not under a shelter). The machine works fine but the transmission oil is very milky and I want to change it before I cause some real damage.

What plugs/lines/screens/filters need to be removed/checked/cleaned/replaced for proper oil replacement(to get it all out, 31 gallons according to books/tags)? Although I've already changed the filters, I'm going to change them again(cheap insurance). The main things that I'm unsure about are:
1. Where are all(and how many) of the drain plugs?
2. How many magnetic screens are there(location)(2?)?
3. The parts book shows a screen in the bottom of the torque housing. Clean too(might as well since I'm there)?

Maybe I'm just thick but I've done a hell-of-a-lot of reading and either this procedure isn't covered in my books or I just can't find it.

Thanks for any help guys!!!!

OK yeah, I feel pretty stupid now. I've got the original from the previous owner with scribbles all over it from 52 years of use. Seems I've grown too accustom to digging through the parts and maintenance book much more than the little grey book.

HOWEVER, I'm trying to gather any new seals and gaskets before I get it torn apart and the illustrations and parts books still don't match the instructions in the little grey book. I've noticed that the little book seems to cover D6-9. In one section(Page1 picture) it mentions that the machines equipped with magnetic strainer have had the screen removed from the right front of the bevel gear compartment while the left screen still needs to be cleaned. On the Page2 picture from the book, it shows taking pipes from the front of the transmission(that's not the bevel gear compartment, D6 picture maybe?). ALSO, the parts book shows a screen in the back of the torque divider which the little grey book doesn't even talk about(Page3 picture).

What gives?
Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to get a book just for the D7 tractor only.

Hi Zbrown, take a look at this book below. I don't have a D7 so I'm not familiar with model numbers. Is this book the correct one for your tractor ? If so I'll look up the procedure for you. If you want this book, send me a private message, tell me a fair price and it's yours.

That's the thing Rome, it IS a D7 book. Check the picture(I blacked-out all of the phone numbers)

That would be sweet TOGNOT. But, you've got to give me the price. Of course you know I'd love to have it but I don't want to offend with a lowball price 😊
If I could make a living reconditioning these old beasts, I'd jump on it in a second! But, this is just a hobby for me to get family back out in the sticks where we belong! Dirt don't move by itself right?

BTW, mine is 48A7052 if your book covers it.

Thanks folk!

There were different form numbers for those manuals also, there's one on Ebay that has a FE045046 number.

You will need the later service manual that covers 47A3396-up and 48A6393-up to cover your 48A7052 s/n.
