I have a D3B 27Y that won't move. It has the 3F3R tranny. Problem started when the transmission filter crushed and a small 1/4" x 1/4" x 1" piece of the rubber gasket got swallowed into the system. I disassembled the transmission valve body and found a plugged orifice in the pressure differential spool valve. Also removed what looked like most of the missing gasket from the transmission sump screen. Put her all back together and still "no go". Metered all the test points all good, except, pressure to the torque should be 60-75 psi with converter stalled. I have 200 psi and no way will the converted stall, it doesn't send any torque thru the tranny. Does anyone have experience with this Cat? Could the oil cooler be plugged? Is the oil pressure high when a torque converter isn't stalled. The book only calls out what's right, doesn't say what if it's not.

You have some of the filter or whatever plugging the passage from the valve to the converter or maybe worse the cooler. Take the trans cooler lines off, start the engine and see how much oil comes out. If you get good flow the cooler is plugged. If not the problem is back up stream. Between valve and converter. Pull valve out and check passage to converter.
Outlet valve holds converter charge at 60 PSI, if an obstruction happens the inlet valve(ratio valve) opens and saves the converter from blowing up. That should be at 125 to 150 PSI. Hope your is still okay.

Thanks Bob,
I’ll let you know what I find. PSI reading on the converter was not very accurate as I was using a 4000 psi gage, it may have not been more than 150 psi. Anyway thanks for the help and I'll go fishin down in the Cat belly.

Richard,
Richard, a word of caution here. You need help checking the cooler line flow, extend the hose going to the cooler and have someone hold it into a 5 gal pail. The hose you need is the one that comes out of the trans at the temp sender. Plug the cooler fitting on the rad to minimize mess. Just start up and shut down if oil comes. Try to get a couple of 600 Psi gauges for trans clutch pressures and a 200 Psi gauge for converter pressure.

microlink---is this the same continuing problem from last april? At that time you were going to fix the starter and then pull the engine---did you actually get the machine to move then and this is a new problem?

Yep, same machine. I did fix the starter but she still doesn't move. I'm ready to
pull the engine if necessary. Sure want to make sure I've tried everything else first.

I can't remember older thread on this machine but I would be pulling the trans not the engine from the picture I am getting here.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
