What is the answer to repairing stripped threads to all precombustion chamber threads in early cylinder heads D3304 , D333 Engines when Caterpillar used a odd 12 threads per inch ? there is no Heilocoil thread 3/4 or 7/8 12 threads per inch or other manufactures that I have been able to find 7/8 NF is 14 threads per inc

This source, I believe they even have an insert that renews the chamber seat as well as the thread.

Thanks Old Magnet for the information on this problem .I have written Lock -N stitch for information about their kit .They are the only one so far that has a 7/8 12 threads for inch insert .My question for them now is weather the insert can be installed with out removing the head .I have successfully made the guides and tools to install a heilcoil in one cylinder to discover that all Cat chambers use a odd thread . I have a machine shop re machining a chamber to take a 14 F heilcoil . What sealant would you advise to use ?

I'd ask loc-n-stitch what they recommend, otherwise I think I'd go with the latest high temperature Loctite 2620 good for up to 650*

I have asked them this question in my e-mail to them and a price for the kit because this may be a reoccurring problem in other cylinders . I am having a problem with the outer chamber seals leaking water when the temperature drops below 40 degrees at night here I lucked out last year ,and removed another chamber with no problems to replace the o ring . Not so lucky this year when I removed this chamber . I will write you if they respond with another type of sealant .Your suggestion of the high temperature 2620 loctite is the best option so far .
Thanks again for your information on this problem

rjh-md, There are many many chambers available on Machinery Trader parts search, all Cat replacement. Some aftermarket starting at approximately $42 US. I don't know what your labor rate is but $200 for the parts seems a lot cheaper and less time consuming than machining new odd pieces to fit.

Good luck.

Thanks for your information Herb .I have already have checked Machinery Trader .The problem is not finding a chamber .
My problem is that I thread gauged my old chamber ,and the threads are distorted . I made the mistake of assuming that the threads were standard 7/8 14 NF threads per inch .I bought drill 57/64 ,and heilcoil tap and 7/8 14NF heilcoil ,made drill and tap guides ,and made tool to install heilcoil because they wanted $180 for the installing tool . I drilled and taped cylinder head to 7/8 14 NF threads . After finding and talking to the local machine shop that has rebuild a lot of Cat heads I found that all Caterpillar chambers ,and heads use a 12 thread odd thread ,so now I have a mismatch ,and only solution is to change the chamber threads by cutting down the chamber threads ,and building up the chamber with brass ,and recutting the threads to 7/8 14 NF. .I worked years ago for a Cat Dealer ,and never knew that the 12 odd threads per inch were used on these heads. I tried and could not find any one that made odd thread heilcoils .
Maybe my mistake will help someone else that has stripped head threads . I wish I had Old Magnet's information before starting this project because he found a outfit that makes 12 odd thread inserts

Sorry, I didn't realize you were at that advanced stage. Cat uses 12 pitch thread in a lot of proprietary parts. I have a large collection of 12 pitch taps. Just for Cat.

Herb ,
Where would I find a Vender that I can supply a 7/8 12 thread per inch tap ,and die nut or matching helicoil ? This would greatly help with future problems !
Thanks
