Pre Cleaner Problem

Yesterday I decided to Pull apart a Pre-Cleaner [Similar to 2B4343 on a 22 ] This one had suffered some damage and needs some panel work .The lid is spot welded and not a stud as 22 Book shows . OK now drilled the 8 Spot welds and removed Lid and to My suprise the air Flutes were almost [80-90%] clogged with Old Crud Oil . Don't ask me how it would get so much Oil Up there to cause blockage so bad . But was thinking if any One has one of these fitted and Motor is Sluggish or appears to be struggling for breath Could be the Problem . You cannot see inside OK ! . May pay to soak or Pressure Wash to be Sure . Just thought I would pass this on . LJ

have seen that before on direct drive machines.
Can only speculate that the operator stalled the engine on a incline and rolled back with the clutch still engaged. This spun the engine backwards and the inlet became the exhaust with the result that oil from the air cleaner bowl being pushed back up thru the pre-cleaner.

I've had the old allis 260 scrapers do that .. They will actually run backwards but with aircleaner in operators cab makes awfull mess!!!
