Does anybody know of makers and/or models of portable air compressor units that used Caterpillar gasoline engines? I'm talking from 1925-1940's of course. Would be especially interested to hear if there was a unit that used the same engine as a PV-15.

Not sure. Gardner Denver used Cat engines but mostly diesel, they had some with Buda gas engines. I have a Joy with D315.

I recently found this Chicago Pneumatic Tool (CPT) air compressor with a D311 (1951). Some of the CPT literature indicates they also used D3400 engines in the earlier versions.

This sounds like a good question for Mr. Ag Mike. He is very knowledgeable about welders, compressors, and gen sets. Also a very nice guy from the little bit I have talked with him on here about these things.

I'm sure cat offered gas power units, but don't know if anyone bought 'em for their compressor product line.
