I have a Cat D5B 98J with what appears to be the original tool bar type blade. I have hundreds of acres of cypress pine regrowth to walk down and rake into windrows. This country was last cleared of larger regrowth about 10 years ago using 2 D9 dozers with a chain between them. Pine regrowth here is very dense far more so than ever in the original state. No grass grows because of this density and this also means you can't get a hot fire to kill it. There is no point is using a chain again as the thin stems just fall over and stand back up. A sharp blade at ground level is very effective but you really do then need a rake working at right angles to windrow without pushing up a lot of topsoil. So to my solution - a walk in clip on type stickrake costing many thousands or I make my own. Note this country is only being used for cattle grazing and will never be cultivated again. I was wondering about welding rake times onto the removable blade cutterbars. Bit time consuming changing the cutter bars over I know and I wonder if I could make them strong enough by just welding them onto the length of the bar face which is the usual 8 or so inches. I will live with a rake that is only the length of the blade is 3 metres or 12 feet and I can do without the angled wing extensions seen on the big rakes.
Thanks for any suggestions or feedback

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
