Uh-oh! - I can see OM snorting fire from his nostrils over this website! They claim that drilling holes for MT series starters in the flywheel housing is prone to major error .. and that conversions using the pony helical gear is the only way to go! 😞
They are pretty shy on a lot of further detailed info .. and pricing in particular. They look like an expensive conversion.

Those conversions are a genuine POS.....I don't think their alternator conversions are any better.

I didn't find it all that hard. .except for boring the 3 5/8" hole, and that was just tedious as I used a 1/2" drill motor and had to stop frequently to let it cool. The first time I did this conversion I used a bi-metal hole saw and had to resharpen it several times. .this time I used a hole saw that was carbide tipped. The trick is to measure everything, then recheck the measurements and just before you start, check 'em again leaving several days between each check. I tapped the holes 1/2-13 NC and got bushings from NAPA to sleeve the holes in the drive end housing from the 5/8" holes that was in it.

All in all, I'm quite satisfied with the end job. Now if I could just find another adapter that bolts in where the generator is so I could mount an alternator. Either that or sacrifice one of the generators I have and make my own adapter.

I finished my conversion on an 8T motor grader. I had to cut holes in the housing. It wasn't terribly difficult and there is a great support group here to answer questions if you hit snag. Here is my price break down

50MT starter, pinion gear, and DEH - $450
Two batteries - $230
Cabling and switch - $150
Alternator - $200
Total - $1030

Compare that to bolt on kits. You will find that most bolt on cost that alone - not counting batteries, cabling, or anything else.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
