Is there an easy source ( outside CAT) for pony motor petcocks? Mine do not seal any more and leak like a windowscreen in a submarine.....

Hi all
Florin Tractors also has them, the ones from Cat are too big and will not screw onto the pony head.

You might be able to tune them up with disassembly, cleaning and lapping

mine have springs on them that is supposed to hold them tight, the valve is tapered and the spring keeps the tapered valve in the body. They get kind of gunked up with dirt and stuff and start to leak a little. i found you can dissassemble them and clean them up good, then stretch the spring a little bit to put more tension on it, and they work good again till the next time they get gunked up.

a lot of the air tanks use on trucks had the same style of valves for draining water. i can get them cheap at napa and they come in 1/4. 3/8 and 1/2 inch npt thread.

I hadn't thought about refurbishing them. I'll pull them off friday and try it! Thanks!

I can loan you a little non embedding polishing compound - once you get the bottom nut off reassemble the taper and this will give a perfect air tight fit. Bob

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
