Have pony shield for starter. I am flying blind. I have a parts book and there are more than a handfull of starter motor combinations, without main starter, with direct starter and glow plugs, etc.

Was this a delco starter-generator? Been looking and found many starter generators available. Is this the standard CCW rotation?

The bracket for my sheild looks to mount a delco starter generator. I notice in the parts book the starter pulley is not clutching , but plain. If it was also a generator, this is explained.

This is to mount on a D6 9U (D6 9U 11919)

Got a starter with it of sorts.
I have a jack-legg setup using a Ford starter and pulley, long arm that mounts on fender with 2 bolts/hinge, cross the belt to turn the engine the right way. I'll get it started once I get the magneto and carburator rebuilt.

Wouldn't mind a starter kit for the Pony. In gear pulling, down hill starts EZ. Uphill sux. :rolleyes2: Unfortunately, I don't have level ground. After pull starting dozer with my 50-60HP 4x4 tractor, I will invest efforts to get the pony working. I tore up some pasture grass!:mmph:

Do you have a starter to mount the sheild, bracker and bolt. In my book, I believe that was combo # 3 without lights, there were many other parts. Do you have enough of the parts to mount a starter on the pony?

This is what the pony starter installation looks like.

The shield assy is the starter to belt drive.
(Read up on your manuals about installing the drive belt, it's a bit tricky)

This is the starter and mounting bracket (unique to D6)

There is only one starter drive arrangement, the rest is choice of with or without battery and choice of generators.

There is no use of combination generator/starter motors.

None of the parts are interchangeable with the D4/D2.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Gemdozer, let me know if you have it.

Dick is also checking, he may have everything for the starter.

This weekend, I am pulling the hood, timing the pony and pulling the magneto and carb for rebuild. Looks like I will need to pull the fuel tank and clean & coat it.

Again, thanks. The books I have do not illustrate this starter like those pictures show.

Actually you should be able to turn that starter the other direction by reversing the cables on the motor. We used those starter motors to run headers and thru solenoids ran the motors both directions.

Not going to invest too much into this setup. If it works it works.
Tested the starter. IMHO it does not spin fast enough with 12V. Was boosting it off my Gator. I did the old 2x4 against the pulley test and it had strength but the RPMs seem low. Will use my tach gage this weekend.
It will certainly do better than that rope.
