I have a D2, series 5U with a bad Pony Motor. I also have a good running pony motor with a 3B9264 casting number on the block. The block casting number on the D2 is 5F9341. My question is; Are there any Major Differences between these two pony motors? I know the manifold (top casting) is different, and so is the flywheel (extra belt groove for electric start). Will the 5F8218 manifold fit the 3B9264 pony motor, and will I be able to "cheat" and use the 3B9264 pony on the D25U? I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I have not gotten very far into this project yet. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks!, Rich.

The D2/D4 pony motors (basic short block) are the same and will interchange with various models.....can be a bit of a challenge to mix, match and find the combination of bolt on items you need.

If the 3B9264 block came out of a D2 or D4, it will work. You just have to use the top cover and manifolds from the 5F block. Any Pony found on the D3400, D4400, D311 and D315 diesel should interchange with each other providing you use the top cover and manifolds.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what the 3B9264 pony motor came off. I bought it at a flea market for $150 (luckily, nobody knew what it was). I was told by the seller that it had belonged to his late brother-in-law and that he thought it may have came off a D6. I know it has the Early type Eisemann magneto on it, and the exhaust just goes out of the short manifold and does not connect to the diesel intake. This pony motor is mounted on a wood base, I'm not sure why, but one nice thing about it is that the Oil Drain Tube is on it and not broken!
I will take it off the wooden base to check the bottom gear. Hopefully it will be the same as the D2 pony motor. I sandblasted the top cover/manifold last night. Maybe with some luck all of this junk will fit together and I can get the D2 running this weekend. Thanks, again, Rich.

The D6 pony motor is considerably different.....has it's own water pump and there is no bottom to the crankcase sump (relies on the bellhousing mounting) and is considerably bigger and almost nothing interchanges with the D2/D4.

I did not know this. The 3B9264 pony motor could not have been on a D6 then. It is the same size as the other two pony motors that I have for the D2, and there is no water pump on it. I noticed last night that all 3 of my pony motors have the same cylinder heads on them.
Things are looking up for this project. I stripped the top cover off of the 3B9264 pony motor and it is loose but hanging up on one stud. Looks like I will need to get out the Fire Wrench to heat that corner up a bit so I can get the cover off. Thanks again for all your help and information, Rich.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
