Hi , My 3T D7 pony motor lost compression after it had started the main engin . I suspected the head gasket and that is correct . Just between the 2 cilinders the gasket is leaking , pushing air from one into the other . Is there anyone who experienced the same ? The Netherlands , Johan7

Check the head surface, making sure it is flat, and not warped in the center.

Hi Johan,
also check that the head stud threads are clean and that the nuts can be screwed on all the way down easily.
When installing the nuts, put a drop of oil on each stud thread and torque to specification.
After the first start re-torque the nuts and then again after about 10 starts. These old style multi layer gaskets are known for compressing down and the nuts loosening off.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi , thanks for the info , quite useful ! But retorqing after some time is easier said than done . You have to drain the cooling system in order to remove a waterpipe and the manifolfds to get at the head nuts . Anyhow , I have had the head flattened to be sure and installed a new gasket . Thanks again . Johan7

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
