Does anybody know the reason for running the fuel lines from the tank of the pony, between the engines and back to the carb? Is it possible to just eliminate that and run a line from the tank to the carb? I know ill have to run around the tractor to shut the fuel, but thats not really a concern for me. Has anybody out there tried this? Thanks

Depending on the model the factory shut off valve on the pony clutch side also contains the fuel filter element. No reason you can't plumb a more direct route if you don't mind the inconvenience or the advantage of a double shut off if there is one at the tank also.

The fuel shut off on some of the CAT 12 graders, like the 70D, with a pony motor were in the cab so you should be able to put them anywhere. I would panic if I didn't see one in the usual place though. I have never used the mag switch to kill the pony and don't know for sure if it works. I have never liked Cat's gas filters but my biggest problem was getting the gas out of the tank.
Good luck.

When I got my D4, someone along the way had already junked the original valve and lines and put a cheesy shutoff valve in the line. I cleaned the tank by dumping some nuts in and shaking it well, then blowing it out. Rebuilt the carburetor and put in a ball valve for shutoff, followed by a throwaway fuel filter and new hoses. It's a bit of a pain to have to walk around the critter to shut the fuel off but I just haven't gotten around to running a rod across the engine so's I could shut it off from the control side.

No fuel problems since. .other than having forgotten to fill the tank once. .😄

Think it depends if you're restoring it or just want it to run , looks nice with the lines all routed corectly with the proper shut off valve ..
